Perhaps one day people will interpret the question, “Can you explain it?” as asking, “Can you grow it?”
— Joshua M. Epstein & Robert Axtell, Growing Artificial Societies, 1996

When I was 14 years old, my parents took me to Bermuda on vacation. I brought Artificial Life by Steven Levy with me, fresh from the library. Teenage me spent most of the time on that vacation reading it on the beach, absolutely enthralled. The ideas presented — and, in particular, simulation itself — blew my mind. Every year since then — through college, grad school, and industry — has been a constant exploration into simulation, its consequences, and futures. “Can we grow it?” became something between manifesto and world view.

And every day, we can grow more and more.
